Posting has languished here I admit lately. That's because I have been getting ready for a family vacation. We're headed to Washington DC and New York City. Of course I'll be keeping my eyes out for accessibility insights to share when we get back.

The Supreme Court ruled the right way in the access on cruise ships case. At least as right as any ADA ruling can get. The supremes said the ADA does apply to cruise ships operating in US waters, even if they are foreign flagged. Of course because of the vagaries of the ADA, that doesn’t mean ships will be compelled to retrofit older vessels. But it should at least mean something for new ones, one would hope. The decision was a close one, 5-4. The disabled passengers who filed the suit can now go to court to prove discrimination. I wish them well. Scott Rains' perspective is here. Candy Harrington’s here. The consensus seems to be that this is a lukewarm victory at best.

I'm a father of three, one who uses a wheelchair to get around. My wife and I feel travel has been one of our most memorable activities. It is time we are together as a family, without the distractions of work, friends or the press of other activities. Our son's wheelchair may make planning for travel more difficult, but it’s worth it. This blog is an effort to bring info I find to light, as well as to educate those interested in the issues faced by people with disabilities who travel.
