Robocars a reality?

Will cars that virtually drive themselves someday help travelers, perhaps especially those with disabilities, get around places they do not know well? Yes, if those entering the Defense Advance Research Projects Agency Urban Challenge have their way.
I can see great potential in this. Most of the problem with driving a vehicle, if you have a disability, is in addressing the controls, even if they're adapted. That would go away if you just had to let the car know where to go. (Photo by Taliesin via morgueFile.com)
